چکیده
Data from an eastern cottonwood clonal mixing study in MissisGppi and Kentucky. USA. were used to test the effects of plant ing location\ and genetic\ (c lonal proport ion\) on height&age and heightkdbh functions. Planting locations. which accounted for 5.65: of the variation 111 obervetl dominant height growth ( /> = 0.0001 1. were more important than clonal proportions. V, hich accounted for onl) I .O’% of the variation ( p = 0.0077). Interactions between clones in mixtures were not \ignil’icant ( p = 0.9 17X). hut thy-w ca\e\ of 01 w and undcrcompenaatit,n paralleled those observed for basal area. Planting locat ion\ wt‘re a~aociatcd with difference\ in maximum height in the height-dbh funct ion and clonal proport ions were as\oclated uith difference\ in height of tl-ccj wtth \maIIc‘r than average dhh Although statistically significant, the effects of planting location and clonal proportion Mere not important enough to incorporate into the final height-&h model.

Genetic Differences in Height Growth and Survival of Cottonwood
--Sixteen full-sib families from crosses between four fast-growing female and four fast-growing male clones of cottonwood (Populus deltoides Bartr.) were clonally evaluated for 1 year in a replicated field test. Seedling size had no effect on clonal performance. Approximately 70 percent of the genetic variance for height and 20 percent of that for survival were additive. The cloned families sur...

متن کاملDisking Effects on Fifth-year Volume Production of Four Eastern Cottonwood Clones Established on an Afforestation Site, Sharkey County, Mississippi
In spring 1995, an eastern cottonwood (Populus delfoides) plantation was established on a former agricultural field in Sharkey County, MS to evaluate the effects of clonal variety and mechanical weed control on aboveground biomass production. Four cottonwood clones, ST-66, ST-72, ST-75 and S7C-1 were planted on a 12 foot x 12 foot spacing and subjected to 2 mechanical weed control treatments (d...

Oriental Beech forests have economic and ecological importances in Hyrcanian zone in the north of Iran. Therefore qualitative and quantitative controls of the stands are essential in management of these forests. This study was aimed for determining the effect of age on growing variables of beech trees in Lomir forest in Asalem, Guilan Province. In this study, 179 Beech trees were selected bas...
متن کاملReduced Cottonwood Recruitment following Extirpation of Wolves in Yellowstone’s Northern Range
Cottonwoods (Populus spp.) represent an important tree component of riparian plant communities within the winter range of the northern Yellowstone elk (Cervus elaphus) herd, yet young cottonwoods are highly palatable to ungulates. To assess potential herbivory impacts associated with wild ungulates following the removal of gray wolves (Canis lupus), long-term cottonwood recruitment and stand dy...
